To help you through this tough time, Plunket offer a free Parenting Through Separation (PTS) course.
This course covers:
- how separation affects children
- what’s best for children when their parents no longer live together
- tools and tips for dealing with the separation, including how to make a parenting plan.
PTS has options for you to attend two, two-hour sessions, or one four-hour session.
The Family Court
If you’re wanting the Family Court to help decide on a parenting matter, most people will need to have completed the Parenting Through Separation course within the last two years.
You’ll receive a completion certificate after the course, which you'll need to show the court as proof of your attendance.
Attendance
Former partners don’t attend the course together, but it can be helpful for grandparents or other whānau who may be involved in caring for your children to come along.
It’s not appropriate to bring your children to these classes.
Plunket provide the Parenting Through Separation programme in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Taupō district and the West Coast of the South Island.
